Miss USA contestants come to Maine

07•21•2011

A young woman from Old Orchard Beach is using both of those things to make a name for herself in the world of beauty pageants. Her business is attracting contestants from around the world, who come here to find the beauty in themselves, while being surrounded by the beauty of our state.

Miss Connecticut 2011 Regina Turner is one of 7 contestants competing in the Miss USA pageant later this month coming to Maine to be dressed and trained at a business run by Ashley Kerr of Old Orchard Beach.

They get the individual attention they need to compete at a high level on a national stage.

'Pageantry is about the individual. When girls go and compete its about themselves, they're getting scored individually", Ashley said.

Ashley and training coach Grace Fontecha work with the contestants on everything from the way they walk to the poise they display to their interview skills.

She has a showroom in New York and an office in Miami. But she says the roots of the business will always remain here.

Miss Connecticut, Miss New York and Miss Texas are a few of the contestants that Ashley has worked with. Photos of them wearing Ashley's dresses were just posted on the Miss USA website today.

You can see the pageant on NBC Sunday June 19th.
